Register with your phone number
Use your home country phone number. You'll receive an SMS verification code.

Add your foreign card
Go to "Me" β "Bank Cards" β Add Card. Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and Diners Club are supported.

Set spending limit
Foreign cards have a daily limit of ~Β₯5,000 CNY (~$700 USD). Sufficient for most travelers.

Try paying Β₯1 at a convenience store to confirm everything works before your trip.

Download WeChat
Install WeChat from your app store. Create an account with your phone number.

Enable WeChat Pay
Go to "Me" β "Services" β "WeChat Pay" β "Wallet".

Add foreign bank card
Tap "Add a Bank Card". Visa and Mastercard from most countries are accepted.

Complete identity verification
You may need to upload your passport photo for verification.

You're ready to pay
Use the QR code scanner to pay at any WeChat Pay merchant in China.

While mobile payments cover 90%+ of situations, keep Β₯500-1000 CNY cash for small vendors, rural areas, and emergencies. Airport ATMs accept most foreign cards.
